Name a great fantasy series/novel to read.?

I'm looking to start reading a new fantasy series and need some suggestions. Please don't list: Jordan, Goodkind, Brooks, Salvatore (or any realms), Martin, Tolkien (obviouslly), Whyte, Card or Herbert because Ive downed everything they've written. Give me something new please.

Name a great fantasy series/novel to read.?
Julian May: The Many Coloured Land.

Gordon R. Dickson : Dorsai Trilogy

Stephen R. Donaldson: Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman:The Dragonlance Chronicles: (The trilogy Autumn, Winter, Spring) and The Legends Trilogy.(Time of the Twins etc)

Enjoyed them all and often buy them as Christmas gifts.
Reply:Magic the Gathering series (also from wizards of the coast like drizzt and dragonlance)

I thought the warcraft series were decent as well, especially that there was an orcish slavery conducted by humans. Its got a bit of the "drizzt concept", but i don't want to ruin it too much for you

"Lord of the Clans" is the one i am referring to

by the way in you answer about fantasy recommendations, is wheel of time a lot harder than Ian McEwan? (he is not a fantasy writer, he wrote atonement)
Reply:I like Harry Potter and I'm going to read Twilight
Reply:Harry Potter. XD

Narnia books...

I liked Spiderwick, Stephanie Meyer series...

Ronald Dahl....

xD

OHHHH! I just remembered. :]

You should read books by Cliff McNish(?)

Especially his Silver series, they're exceptionally good. :)

Also, you should read, "The Wishlist." It's about this girl who dies and goes back to help this guy grant his wishes before he dies, or something like that. It's better than my little summary. :P
Reply:the 3 books by stephenie meyer (twilight, new moon, and eclipse) as well as all of scott westerfelds novels!!!
Reply:Artemis Fowl Series
Reply:Twilight (series) by Stephanie Meyer, Mediator by Meg Cabot. But only if your interested in something unique and interesting. Its kind of a chick book. But the idea is of these books are really creative and original.
Reply:I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Readers' Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

I hope this helps.

Reply:If you are into thrillers Iris Johansen's Eve Ducan series is wonderful I am addicted to it. Another one is James Patterson's Alex Cross series is awesome. or his flying children's series (2 books) is really good.
Reply:The Chronicles of Narnia or His Dark Materials, both great series and really good books.
Reply:Im suprised you didn't list Phillip Pulman.Have you read his books? His dark materials is extremely good:)

Also Garth Nix's books-his "old kingdom" trilogy.very good reads lireal, sabriel, abhorsen. Its about dead who dont stay dead and are bought to life possesed by evil spirits to do evil nemocrancers bidding.ive described it very bad, but trust me if you like fantasy read these two books-they got me into fantasy.

Ive seen twilight suggested-while they are great books they are not fantasy-they are romance.vampire love.

Niel Gaimun has good books aswell.Stardust is my personal favourite by him

Have you not read terry pratchett either?Ive recently started reading his books (the diskworld series) they are good. Fantasy touched with humour.

Paolinis inheritance books are good (eragon/eldest/brisingr) however many people feel he ripped of tolkien and other amazing fantasy authors.they are extremely good reads no matter what people say.

Traci Harding/Tamaro Pierce are two wonderful female writers. They have touches of romance to them however.

but yes i would highly recomend pulman, nix and pratchett some of the best fantasy writers ever!
Reply:A good serious that i love is The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell.... although their childrens books and not too hard to read.
Reply:you know which you should read?? either eclipse, twilight, or new moon by stephenie meyer...i dont really know how to spell her name but those books are awesome!!! well...if u like vampires =D
Reply:are you into romance? TWILIGHT by stephenie meyer is somewhat fantasy.. but mostly romance. everyone loves that series.
Reply:the fifth sacred thing by starhawk
Reply:If you aren't a teenage girl, Twilight probably isn't for you. I'm not a hardcore fantasy reader - I tend to stay off the beaten track with my fantasy (Neil Gaiman, Susanna Clarke and all that, if you're interested in reading something a bit edgier, definitely try them, they're MARVELOUS writers), but here are some series that I've enjoyed, or that I've heard about, and sound like the kind of books you've enjoyed.

Elizabeth Hayden's "Symphony for the Ages." There are five so far. I read up to book three, and thought they were pretty good, but I'm not that into epic fantasy, so I'm not the best judge. They've gotten some pretty good reviews. First book is "Rhapsody."

Lois McMinster Bujold - "Chalion." Award winning fantasy series, one I've been meaning to get around to. I don't know how much like the other books you read it is, but it may be worth a try. First book is "Curse of Chalion."

Terry Pratchett - "Discworld" series. Possibly my favorite author of all time. He's a brilliant satirist. He makes fun of fantasy, but he makes fun of EVERYTHING, and unlike most satirists, whose characters are purposeful characatures, and whose satire mocks without giving anything back, his world is vivid, his characters are some of the best I've read, and the books are not only very funny, but they make you think, without thought being a burden. He doens't force you to think, he makes you WANT to think, he INSPIRES thought. There are many different subseries within the overall Discworld canon consisting of about 40 books. The Watch series is the best, followed by the witches, so you should probably save those for later. I'd start with either "Going Postal" (satirizing postal service), "Monstrous Regiment" (antiwar novel, satirizes war and sexism), or "Reaper Man" (I don't know what it satirizes exactly. Death gets fired for being too human, and tries to live an ordinary life, while everyone else deals with the consequences of not being able to die properly until a new death is created.). Please, just give him a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Gene Wolfe is another good fantasist. His stuff is pretty epic. He writes a lot of shorter series, pretty much along the same vein. I'd recommend you to start with "The Book of the New Sun." It's one book, but divided up into four parts (kind of like the LoTR is one book divided into three), and there are two parts to an actual, physical book. The first of these actual, physical books is "Shadow and Claw." This won the World Fantasy and Nebula Awards.

Hope I've helped! Good luck in your search.
