also, i know i can edit their roster and i locked the team. if i change the league name and password, can that quitter still view the league?

I would just talk to the rest of your league and let them know what you're planning, otherwise the rest of your teams will quit too. Tell the other managers that you'll either:


1. Disperse the players (which will be pretty difficult)


2. Re-draft (but that'll be REALLY diffcult)


3. Just let the best players on the team play. Check it every week or other week and you can only make an adjustment if there is an injury or a bench player is significantly better. Also, to not make the managers upset, let them know that if you plan to make a change, it can come into effect 2 weeks after you want to do it (unless injury occurs)
Reply:No, but locking the manager's roster will just render the manager unable to come back to his team if he wanted to. Plus, make sure your league's members agree on you editing the guy's roster. And as long as the quitter doesn't know the password, they can not view the league. But this seems like a lot of trouble to go through for one person. Make sure your league members know the new password, and why would you want to change the team's name? If it was obscene, you should have removed it before the draft. If it wasn't, then what's the problem?

It appears to be a ploy from Square-Enix in order to 'manipulate' ( in a sense) to buy the game when it is released. (Late 2008 in Japan. Could be pushed back AGAIN :( )

It's Cait Sith. Technically, only the cat on top is Cait Sith, while the big moogle under it is just a small mech it rides on (which does not have a name).





The name Cait Sith is Gaelic. There's a old joke that Gaelic was created so that only native speakers would ever know how to correctly pronounce anything in the language.

Reply:I like to use cool words. If the team has a certain personality to it, I try to incorporate that too.





Think of what you want kind of team you want your's to be. And then try to come up with a name for that sort of team. It's like naming a movie.





Since all you gave was that you like the Cowboys, I might try incorporating cool cowboy words like "bucking", "lone star", "rodeo", "rawhide", etc. And to make it even more creative, you could call it something like "Rodeo Drive" which is a famous street in Hollywood, but you're using the word "rodeo" and "drive" (like to drive the ball in football terms) so your name would have a double-meaning.

I'm writing a medieval fantasy story, and need a name for the world and countries in it. Any suggestions?

To the medieval mind, the "world" didn't have a name; it was just the world. So to give your world a name already something of a modern conceit. Which is to say, I wouldn't give the world a name. If a character needs to refer to it, just call it "the world".





As for countries, that would really depend on the kind of cultures you are setting up. If you're countries are sunny-Mediterranean-types, use Latin-ish name. If they are cold, snowy, Scandinavian like, use Norse, or Teutonic-inspired names.





Of course, another tried and true route is to name the countries after important people or tribes in your story. This will reflect a medieval mind-set. Think of "England", orginally "Anglecynn" or "Angle-Land", land of the Angles. Or "Norway", land of the Northmen. France is named for the Franks (a tribe), Belguim for the Belgae (another tribe), etc.

Plus, Verlander is the ace of the stafff, meaning that at the end of the season, he will have the most starts on the team, making it much more likely for him to increase his stats. #35 for the Tigers had a great record last year,18-6, an era of 3.66 and 183 strikeouts. These numbers are especially good, since the American League is such a powerful offensive division.





So watch out for #35 Justin Verlander, Pitcher of the Detroit Tigers to have a huge year in 2008.

I'd like to change my name and have no personal photo appear as an avatar on these pages, for example next to my transactions on the league page.





The personal pic is the same one from my 360 page and Messenger, but I now have it shut off in Messenger. Do I have to do the same in 360 as well for the Fantasy Sports pages to stop displaying it? I don't see an option in Fantasy Sports to do anything about it. Any help appreciated.

Reply:If i'm not mistaken. You just need to do it in 360 to remove your photo. The fantasy sports profile imports the picture from 360. Fantasy sports gives you 3 options: 360, avatar or nothing. Edit your fantasy profiles to your preference.

Paolinis inheritance books are good (eragon/eldest/brisingr) however many people feel he ripped of tolkien and other amazing fantasy authors.they are extremely good reads no matter what people say.


Traci Harding/Tamaro Pierce are two wonderful female writers. They have touches of romance to them however.

Reply:If you aren't a teenage girl, Twilight probably isn't for you. I'm not a hardcore fantasy reader - I tend to stay off the beaten track with my fantasy (Neil Gaiman, Susanna Clarke and all that, if you're interested in reading something a bit edgier, definitely try them, they're MARVELOUS writers), but here are some series that I've enjoyed, or that I've heard about, and sound like the kind of books you've enjoyed.





Elizabeth Hayden's "Symphony for the Ages." There are five so far. I read up to book three, and thought they were pretty good, but I'm not that into epic fantasy, so I'm not the best judge. They've gotten some pretty good reviews. First book is "Rhapsody."





Lois McMinster Bujold - "Chalion." Award winning fantasy series, one I've been meaning to get around to. I don't know how much like the other books you read it is, but it may be worth a try. First book is "Curse of Chalion."


Terry Pratchett - "Discworld" series. Possibly my favorite author of all time. He's a brilliant satirist. He makes fun of fantasy, but he makes fun of EVERYTHING, and unlike most satirists, whose characters are purposeful characatures, and whose satire mocks without giving anything back, his world is vivid, his characters are some of the best I've read, and the books are not only very funny, but they make you think, without thought being a burden. He doens't force you to think, he makes you WANT to think, he INSPIRES thought. There are many different subseries within the overall Discworld canon consisting of about 40 books. The Watch series is the best, followed by the witches, so you should probably save those for later. I'd start with either "Going Postal" (satirizing postal service), "Monstrous Regiment" (antiwar novel, satirizes war and sexism), or "Reaper Man" (I don't know what it satirizes exactly. Death gets fired for being too human, and tries to live an ordinary life, while everyone else deals with the consequences of not being able to die properly until a new death is created.). Please, just give him a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.





Gene Wolfe is another good fantasist. His stuff is pretty epic. He writes a lot of shorter series, pretty much along the same vein. I'd recommend you to start with "The Book of the New Sun." It's one book, but divided up into four parts (kind of like the LoTR is one book divided into three), and there are two parts to an actual, physical book. The first of these actual, physical books is "Shadow and Claw." This won the World Fantasy and Nebula Awards.

I don't know the name of all the Final Fantasy games, but one of the best games I have ever played and beat was Final Fantasy X. I played Final Fantasy XII as well, but they go hand in hand if you beat the first one. The story is great and so were the graphics when you get to the cut scenes.

You might want to try the Left Behind series. Its a series of books that tell the story of what the Bible says will happen at the end of time using fictional characters. Even if you're not into the Bible it sounds like you'd find the supernatural events and adventures of the characters quite entertaining. "Metropolis" by Lady Frieda Von Harbou.





"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelly (yes, it's philosophical, but it's about our relationship to technology, and therefore it's sci-fi.)





Anything by Jules Verne or H.G. Wells counts.





After WWII, the market started getting really hot. Heinlein, Philip K. Dick, Arthur Clarke, Asimov pretty much controlled the 50's and 50's and early 70's. Most anything by them is either considered Classic or at least a fun read.





Don't want to leave out Larry Niven, probably the most polite writer a reader could enjoy. "Ring World" is a classic in my view.





Same with "Sirens of Titan" by Vonnegut and "Venus on a Half-Shell" by "Kilgore Trought" (aka Philip Jose Farmer.)





The genre is huge. I'll let somebody else give you the Fantasy list.
